Jammu, Feb 14 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir governmenthas sought sanction for 6,500 more Anganwadi centres from theCentral government in order to bring all areas underIntegrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
"The Centre has been approached for sanctioning ofmore 6,500 Anganwadi centres to bring all the areas underIntegrated Child Development Scheme, which looks aftermaternal and child health and nutrition, in Jammu andKashmir," Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo said today.
A proposal for creating basic infrastructure forAnganwadi centres has already been submitted to the Centralgovernment for approval, she said.
Stating that 28,000 Anganwadi centres are workingin the state, she said that the government is trying to ensuretimely payment of pension to the beneficiaries and a lot hasbeen achieved in this direction.
A survey would be conducted through Anganwadi centresto ascertain the population of physically challenged in thestate, so that the Centre could be approached for financialassistance for them accordingly, she added.
The Minister has also asked department officers andfunctionaries to launch a massive awareness campaign in theirrespective areas to bring more beneficiaries under the welfareschemes.
