Stamp released on 100th year of aerial mail service launch
Allahabad, Feb 12 (PTI) To commemorate world''s firstaerial mail service, which was launched here on this day in1911, Governor of Uttar Pradesh B L Joshi today released apostage stamp dedicated to the 100th year of the historicevent.
Besides releasing the stamp, the Governor also flaggedoff a Chetak helicopter at the Central Air Command of theIndian Air Force in Bamrauli near here. The chopper flew toNaini, a township situated across River Yamuna.
On February 12, 1911, the world''s first aerial mailservice was launched with a helicopter carrying 6,500 lettersfrom Allahabad to Naini, a statement said.
Besides the Governor, Air Marshal G S Kochar, AirOfficer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command, andsenior officials of the Indian Postal Department were presenton the function.
