Reconsider grant of aid to NGOs, MCD told
New Delhi, Feb 13 (PTI) As MCD struggles with dwindlingcash reserves, a demand has been raised by a senior ruling BJPcouncillor that the civic body should reconsider its policy ofgiving aid to NGOs and educational institutions.
MCD Works Committee Chairman Jagdish Mamgain has writtena letter in this regard to Mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney.
Pointing out that the financial position of MCD is notgood, he requested the Mayor to reconsider the policy ofgranting aid to various NGOs and educational institutions.
Many such organisations are taking grant from variousgovernment agencies as well as receiving donations fromvarious sources, the BJP leader said. In 2009-10, as per MCDrecord, Rs 19.51 crore were sanctioned as grant to 209 NGOsand 45 public primary schools in the city.
"I request you to enquire into the financial status andgrant received by all organisations. If the grant is takenfrom MCD, then one cannot withdraw it from any other agencies.
Therefore, it will be better that grant may be withdrawn sothat the money may be used into developmental work, Mamgainsaid.
The MCD has over Rs 2,000 crore in debt and has torelease payment of Rs 686 crore to various projectcontractors.
