Jamshedpur, Feb 12 (PTI) Host Jharkhand have high hopesof grabbing majority of the gold medals at stake during thearchery event at the 34th National Games.
However, barring CWG gold medalist Deepika Kumari, noneof the other archers were invited for the opening ceremonythat kicked off at the main venue, Ranchi.
No, we have not received any invitation to witness theopening ceremony in Ranchi, which is about 130 kms from here,said present and past international archers.Purnima Mahto, Coach of Jharkhand Archery team (women),said right now, her focus was on the ongoing camp as the dateof competition is drawing closer.
Asked whether she has received any official invitationfor the opening ceremony, Purnima, who was also the coach ofthe Indian women''s archery team for the last edition of CWG atDelhi, informed no such invitation was given nor any onecontacted her in this regard.
Another International archer, Jhanu Hansda, one of thegold medal prospect at the National Games in the women''scompound section, also echoed a similar view.
An official of Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA) saidbarring Deepika Kumari, one of the torch bearer for the Games,neither any JAA official nor any past and present archers ofnational and international were invited for the openingceremony even though state has high expectation to win goldmedal.
The first women conqueror of Mount Everst, Bachendri Pal,who is also the Chief of Tata Adventure Sports Foundation,also got a raw deal from the organisers.
Admitting that she has not received any invitation forthe opening ceremony, Bachendri told PTI that she was not atall disappointed as she wished that the National Games, whichhad been postponed umpteen times for various reasons includingpolitical instability in Jharkhand, be a grand success.
