Kharagpur (WB), Feb 12 (PTI) BJP will support themajority opinion in the hills and this has been the party''sconsistent stand, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha SushmaSwaraj said today.
"BJP will not be against the majority opinion.
Whatever is the wish of the majority of people in the hills,we will go by that," Swaraj told reporters after a publicmeeting here, in the West Midnapore district.
Swaraj said her comments were in conformity with theBJP poll manifesto during Lok Sabha elections, which hadclearly spelt out the party''s stance on the issue, as BJPbelieved in democratic norms.
BJP MP Jaswant Singh, who represents Darjeeling LokSabha seat, had been elected as an independent candidatesupported by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) during the 2009elections and was later reinstated in the saffron party.
Speaking about price rise and corruption, Swarajblamed both the CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress for "supportingthe successive UPA governments in 2004 and 2009 respectively."
"Both the Marxists and Trinamool are to be blamed forallowing this UPA government to lead the country to ruin intwo phases of its rule," she said at the rally whilelampooning Trinamool "for not raising its voice against blackmoney and scams rocking the nation now".
Turning to the law and order situation in West Bengal,Swaraj said both Marxists and Trinamool had aided miscreantsto let loose reign of terror in different parts of stateincluding ''jangalmahal'' (jungle belt of three south Bengaldistricts dominated by Maoists).
"Both the CPI(M) and Trinamool aided Maoists andallowed their growth and now the situation has got to such aviolent phase," Swaraj rued.
Swaraj attended the public rally as the ''NabajagaranRathayatra'' of BJP reached Kharagpur town today. The yatrawill culminate in Kolkata on February 15.
