We don''t support firing and violence: Mamata
Kolkata, Feb 11 (PTI) Describing the violence inDarjeeling and police firing in Dooars as ''unfortunate'',Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today appealed to thepeople there to maintain peace.
"I would like to appeal to the people of the hills tomaintain peace and have cordial relations with the people inthe plains," the Railway minister said while commenting on theDarjeeling situation.
"We don''t support firing and violence. What has happenedin Darjeeling is unfortunate. Any death is regrettable," shesaid, referring to the death of two persons in the policefiring at Sikchu of Dooars and the violence in Darjeeling.
The Trinamool chief said it was important to ensure thatsuch incidents did not recur.
Banerjee said as a human being and not as a politician,she was making demand for a probe into the incident,punishment to the guilty and adequate compensation to theaffected people.
"It has become a practice to delve into the politics ofdivision before elections in our state and for last 25-30years, this is happening," Banerjee said.
