No problem in holding weightlifting event: Pandey

Jamshedpur, Feb 11 (PTI) The weightlifting event of theNational Games will be held without any hiccup as the damagedequipment will be replaced soon, Himani Pandey, Chairperson ofthe Games'' Co-ordination Committee (NGCC), said here today.

The four-day event will begin from February 22.

The NGCC has already informed the Organising Committeeand other concerned authorities in Ranchi and have requestedfor an early replacement.

"We are expecting the replacement of the damagedequipment as well as warm up platform soon," Pandey, the EastSinghbhum district Deputy Commissioner said adding that thesupplier of the equipment have despatched the consignment sothat the competition could be held on time.

The equipments including imported laminated woodencompetition platforms, training-cum-warm up platforms werefound in a bad state after being stored in open in JRD TataSports complex where termites damaged it badly.

On the preparation aspect, Pandey said a contingent of25 sportspersons including women''s football team of Manipurhas already arrived in the steel city, host of five events �archery, boxing, equestrian, women''s football andweightlifting.

Expressing confidence that the Games in Jamshedpur willbe a grand success, she said the budget allocated for theevents in Jamshedpur was Rs. 2.59 crore and it would beexpanded under contingency plan to accomodate additional 100people.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Akhilesh Kumar Jha andSuperintendent of Police (City), Jatin Narwal, who were alsopresent at the press meet, said adequate security arrangementhave been made to maintain law and order.

Apart from the existing district police force, Narwalsaid para-military force and 400 home guards jawans will bepressed into service to ensure hassle free games.
