No possibility of putting off weightlift event in JSR : Pandey

Jamshedpur, Feb 11 (PTI) The National Gamesweightlifting event, to be hosted at Jamshedpur from February22 to 25, will be held on time as replacement of the damagedequipment was expected soon, Chairperson of 34th NationalGames Co-ordination Committee (NGCC) here, Himani Pandey todaysaid

The NGCC has already apprised about the damagedweightlifting equipment to the National Games OrganisingCommittee (NGOC) as well as the concerned authorities inRanchi and urged for its replacement soon.

"We are expecting the replacement of the damagedequipment as well as warm up platform soon", Pandey, the EastSinghbhum district Deputy Commissioner said adding that thesupplier of the equipment have despatched the consignmentbefore hand so that the competition could be held on time.

The whole consignment of weightlift equipmentincluding imported laminated wooden competition platforms,training-cum-warm up platforms, which were stored in open inJRD Tata Sports complex owing to lack of proper storagefacility, was discovered as badly damaged last week, intermite ''attack'' and due to other factors.

On the preparation aspect, Pandey said a contingent of25 sportspersons including one women''s football team ofManipur has already arrived in the steel city, one of thevenue of the national games hosting five events � archery,boxing, equestrian, women�s football and weightlifting.

The NGCC Chairperson said altogether 1504 atheletesand officials will be taking part in the mega sports event andthe organizers here made arrangements includingtransportation, accommodation, catering.

Expressing confidence that the National Games inJamshedpur will be a grand success, she said the budgetallocated for the events in Jamshedpur was Rs. 2.59 crore andit would be expanded under contingency plan to accomodateadditional 100 people.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Akhilesh Kumar Jhaand Superintendent of Police (City), Jatin Narwal, who werealso present in the press meet, said adequate securityarrangement have been made to maintain law and order.

Apart from the existing district police force, Narwalsaid para-military force and 400 home guards jawans will bepressed into service to ensure hassle free games.
