Nayar scores century in Mumbai victory

Vadodara, Feb 11 (PTI) A solid knock of 118 runs byAbhisek Nayar, supported by Siddharth Chitins (71 not out) andSurya Kumar Yadav (56) helped Mumbai beat Gujarat by 31 runsin an Inter-State one day match (west zone) at the Relianceground here today.

After winning the toss, Mumbai piled up a mammoth 338 foreight in their allotted 50 overs.

The 118-run fifth wicket partnership between Nayar andSurya helped Mumbai in crossing the 300-run mark.

Siddharth Trivedi captured four wickets but gaveaway 70 runs in the process. Chasing a victory target of 339,Gujarat were all-out for 307 in only 47.1 overs.

However, Bhavik Thakkar scored 126 runs in 134 balls hitting14 boundaries and was instrumental in keeping Gujarat in thehunt.

He teamed up with Avi Barot and added 137 runs for thesecond wicket. Skipper Parthiv Patel made 32 while othersfailed.

Pacer Rajesh Verma (3/31),Aavishkar Salvi (3/45) andleft-arm spinner Iqbal Abdulla (3/50) were the mainwicket-takers.

Mumbai secured 4 points and now have nine points from twomatches. Yesterday, they defeated Baroda by 7 wickets.
