Lucknow, Feb 12: The fate of a 18-year-old girl was not so romantic during the Valentine Week. Saskshi Singh, who was studying in the 12th standard, was shot dead at point-blank range by her lover Ashish Verma, when she was on her way to school on Friday (Feb 11) morning. Ashish was extremely dejected after all his efforts to impress Sakshi went in vain. The heinous crime was committed by the 25-year-old man after his proposal was rejected by Sakshi, who apparently was also his neighbor. Unable to bear the loss of the love of his life, Ashish committed suicide after returning to his house.

It has been revealed that Ashish approached Sakshi while she was on her way to the New Public College, which is located in Lucknow's Ashiana neighborhood, and proposed to her. Moreover, he also asked Sakshi to come with him on his motorcycle. This was followed by a fierce argument between the two youth which eventually ended in Sakshi's death.

Ashish was rushed to the Trauma Center at the Medical College by the members of his family. However, his condition remains to be critical. Police have retrieved a suicide note from Ashish's room, which says that, "I have been madly in love with Sakshi for the past five years. I wanted her to be my friend but she rejected my proposal. This is why I do not want to live anymore."
