former CPI MLA''s son arrested on charges of chainsnatching
Coimbatore, Feb 11 (PTI): The son of a former CPI MLA wasarrested today on charges of attempting to snatch a chain froma woman a couple of days ago at P N Pudur area in the city.
Jeevanandam, son of AITUC secretary and former MLA, MArumugam, was arrested on a complaint by a woman in a tailorshop that he had tried to snatch her chain in a shop onFebruray 9 during an argument, police said.
He was produced before 1st Judicial Magistrate Court,Satyamurthy, who remanded him to judicial custody and waslater lodged in the Central Jail.
Arumugam said his son had gone to the area to holddiscussions on opening a cellular phone store. As the shopswere closed, he waited at a nearby tailor shop for the ownersto arrive. there were some arguments with a woman in the shop,following which a worker pushed him down.
In the melee, his son lost his cellphone, based on whichpolice summoned him to the police station and registered anFIR against him, charging him with attempting to snatch achain, he said.
Arumugam alleged that his son had been implicated in thecase by his political adversaries, who forced the woman tolodge a complaint against him.
