Bengal government to send to Centre report on Darjeeling

Kolkata, Feb 11 (PTI) The West Bengal government willbe soon sending a report to the Union Home Ministry detailingthe February eight violent incidents in Darjeeling hills thatclaimed the lives of two persons.

State''s Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh said a ''factual''report on the incidents would shortly be despatched to theHome Ministry by the state home secretary.

Asked for his comment about the Centre not respondingto the state''s request for army deployment in Darjeeling,Ghosh said, "We are not withdrawing our request. We are alsonot pursuing the issue right now since the situation is nowunder control."

To a question whether the report would containpossible Maoist link with Darjeeling violence, the chiefsecretary said "I have no such knowledge."

Ghosh said that FIRs had been lodged in connectionwith the violence, adding that he had no idea about anyarrest.

"FIRs have been lodged, But no idea about arrest.

Police action will follow," he said.

The state home secretary is understood to have sent aninitial report to the Home Ministry, expressing government''swonder at the GJM violating agreement with the Centre, arrivedat last tripartite meeting, by indulging in violence and notmaintaining peace in the hills.
