Knowledge society should create responsible citizens: Governor
Aurangabad, Feb 10 (PTI) Maharashtra Governor KSankaranarayanan today said that the ultimate aim of theknowledge society, in which we are living, is to turn itshuman resources into responsible and informed citizenscommitted to working for the better society.
He was speaking after inaugurating an auditorium buildingat Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University here.
He further said, "The knowledge society in which we areliving today rests on four pillars, namely, knowledgegeneration, knowledge dissemination, knowledge accessibilityand knowledge application."
He said that today we have 425 universities, 18,000colleges and two crore students enrolled for highereducation in the country. "However the proportion of ourpopulation in the relevant age group, 18 to 23, that entersthe world of higher education is only 13 percent as comparedto 47 per cent in some developed countries".
He also said that Universities would have to becomefinancially self-sufficient in the coming years in order tosustain themselves. PTI COR KRK
