Haryana honours 33 sportspersons

Chandigarh, Feb 10 (PTI) Thirty-three sportspersons andtwo coaches from Haryana were honoured by the Governor JaganNath Pahadia at a state level sports award function here.

Seven of them got Bhim award, the highest sports award ofthe state. These players received a cash award of Rs 2 lakheach, besides Bhim''s idol, scroll, blazer and tie.

The awardees included Dinesh Kumar of Bhiwani (boxing),Suman Kundu of Jind (wrestling), Anil Kumar of Jhajjar (Judo),Kavita of Hisar (boxing), Jayati Pathak ofYamunanagar (Taekwondo), Sunita Devi of Rohtak (Paralympicsathletics)and Gyanand Singh of Bhiwani (Paralympicsathletics).

Two wrestling coaches Satpal Singh and Yashvir Singhwere given cash prize of Rs 2.51 lakh each at the function.

Players from Haryana won 33 per cent of the total medalswon by the Indians in the Commonwealth Games and also gave agood performance in the Asian Games.

The Governor said the state government today distributedRs 23 crore among 7,500 sportspersons for their performancelast year and another Rs 10 crore would be distributed in thenext year.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh was also present on theoccasion.
