Harassed by lover, girl commits suicide

Hyderabad, Feb 11 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl todaycommitted suicide in Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradeshafter being allegedly pressurised to yield to the loveproposals made by a computer operator working at her school,police said today.

According to police, the girl identified as AnanthaLakshmi, studying in tenth standard in a government highschool, took the extreme step after consuming some poisonoussubstance at her house in a village of Bantwaram mandal lastnight and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital inTandur town.

The parents of the girl who lodged a complaint with thepolice alleged that their daughter was being repeatedlyharassed with proposals by one Mohammed Hafis, who worked atthe school as a Computer operator (private employee).

"The girl had been rejecting the youth''s proposals.

However, last evening, Hafis again approached the girl withlove proposal and asked her to come with him though she againrefused. It seems she was unable to bear the harassment metedout by the youth and finally ended her life," a police officersaid quoting the complaint.

Bantwaram Police have registered a case under Section 306(abetment to suicide) against Hafis and have taken him intocustody. Further investigations were on.
