Centre silent in the face of multiple scams : Naidu

Burdwan/Singur (WB), Feb 10 (PTI) Dubbing Prime MinisterManmohan Singh as the ''mouni muni'' (silent spectator), seniorBJP leader Venkaiah Naidu today accused the Centre ofremaining unmoved despite thousands of crores swindled indifferent scams.

"One scam after another rocked the country in recenttimes. Thousands of crores were lost in Commonwealth, IPL, 2Gspectrum and Adarsh Housing scams. But the UPA governmentremains unmoved and our Prime Minister remains the mounibaba," Naidu said at a BJP meeting in Burdwan town.

Allleging that ill-gotten wealth worth crores was stashedin foreign banks, he wondered why Union Finance MinisterPranab Mukherjee was not disclosing the names of Indians whohad hidden their black money in tax havens abroad.

Even UPA partner Trinamool Congress was keeping silentover the matter and "it is difficult to fathom why Railwayminister Mamata Banerjee who raises her voice on all issues isquiet on the matter of corruption," Naidu said.

He also reiterated that the BJP''s stand on a JPC to probethe 2G spectrum issue remains undiluted.

Turning to reports of alleged Trinamool Congress-Maoistnexus, Naidu said in Singur, "Why Mamataji is not immediatelyclarifying her party''s relation with Naxalites."

"Though at times she had denied the charges, theperception should be categorically dispelled by her....we hadseen how the Congress came to power in Andhra Pradesh in thepast with the help of Maoists," Naidu said.

The BJP leader even charged Congress with taking the helpof ULFA to form the government in Assam.

The former BJP President, however, questioned the roleof CPI(M) in the economic development of West Bengal andblamed the left for the backwardness of ''jangalmahal (thejungle Maoist-dominated belt of three Bengal districts) aswell as the rest of Bengal.

"In Singur, the squabble of CPI(M) and Trinamool droveaway industry and one can see the sorry state of affairs inthe area," he said, adding the future of Bengal cannot besecure in the hands of either side.

Naidu came to these two places in Hooghly and Burdwandistricts in connection with the ''jan jagran yatra'' of stateBJP.
