Bhopal, Feb 11 (PTI) People who agitated for long to getcentral university status for the Dr Hari Singh GourUniversity, Sagar in Madhya Pradesh are now demanding that itbe reverted to state-level position saying that the needy fromthe backward Bundelkhand region have been unable to reapdesired benefits.
A signature campaign was recently launched in theuniversity campus under the banner of Gour Youth Forum forcollecting over one lakh signatures in support of the demandof reverting to the state level status to the Dr H S GourUniversity.
"So far, over 53,000 people have signed on the memorandumthat will be submitted to President Pratibha Patil," ForumPresident Dr Vivek Tiwari told PTI from Sagar.
The demand was raised as a large number of local studentswere denied admission in the Central University due to itstough admission rules and for not meeting the highereligibility criterion, Congress leader Sourav Hazari said.
"The creation of central university has virtually left uswith no option and we feel totally cheated as majority of thestudents of the region, who otherwise studied in thisinstitution were not getting admission in it," Gour YouthForum''s University girls wing president Tanvi Tiwari said.
Before the creation of the central university, a total of6,000 regular students and nearly 25,000-30,000 privatestudents living in remote areas of the Bundelkhand region werestudying in the University, but now only 3000 students areadmitted in it, Tiwari said. (More) PTI MAS VKV
