Shillong, Feb 11 (PTI) Meghalaya unit of BJP todayorganised a sit-in demonstration here to protest thespiralling prices of essential commodities and the failure ofthe government to streamline Public Distribution System.
"UPA government at the Centre has failed to check theincreasing prices of essential commodities, thus leading toerosion of the confidence of the people in the government,"state BJP general secretary Dipayan Chakraborty said.
He led the scores of BJP supporters in front of theAdditional Secretariat here.
UPA, he said, is yet to come up with a proper policyto relieve the common people of the pressure of price rise,despite repeated pleas from various corners.
State BJP condemned UPA''s efforts "to burden aam admiwith yet another dose of petrol and diesel price hike".
"The food inflation is on its high in country andpeople are reeling under the pinch of the overall price rise.
The UPA government has also failed to streamline the PDSsystem. The PDS is in a mess in Meghalaya and BPL citizens areunable to meet their two square meals a day," he said.
