Binayak Sen''s mother breaks down on hearing HC verdict

Kalyani (WB), Feb 10 (PTI) Anasuya Sen, mother of CivilRights'' activist, Binayak Sen, today broke down on hearing theChhattisgarh High Court''s ruling rejecting the bail plea ofher son, sentenced to life imprisonment by a sessions court oncharges of sedition and links with Naxalites.

Reacting to the High Court''s ruling, the 85-year-oldAnasuya Sen wept, saying "I only know that my son is the bestin my mother land."

She claimed that the Chhattisgarh government had "hatcheda conspiracy from the very beginning to keep my son, Binayak,behind bars."

Goutam Sen, the brother of Binayak Sen, a well knownpaediatrician, said the family would file an appeal in theSupreme Court challenging the High Court''s decision.

He said Elina Sen, the wife of Binayak Sen, would talk tolawyers for filing the appeal.

Sen, vice-president of People''s Union of Civil Libertieswho had been working among the tribals in Raipur for the last30 years, was convicted for sedition and sentenced to lifeimprisonment along with Naxal ideologue Narayan Sanyal andbusinessman Piyush Guha for colluding with Naxals to establisha network to fight the state.

Additional District and Sessions Judge B P Verma had heldthe trio guilty under provisions of section 124 A (sedition)and 120 B (conspiracy) of IPC and Chhattisgarh Special PublicSecurity Act on December 24.
