Vijender awaits incentives for medals won over a year ago

New Delhi, Dec 10 (PTI) Olympic bronze medallist andAsian Games gold medallist boxer Vijender Singh is a hassledman these days.

He is yet to get the prize money announced by the Haryanagovernment for the bronze medals won at the World Championshipand Asian Championships in 2009 and is tired of running aroundfor it.

"It has been more than a year since the prize money wasannounced. Both these events were held in 2009 and I have notgot the money for my medals till today. It is hasslesome andirritating to run from pillar to post for what is rightfullymine," Vijender told PTI.

The 25-year-old boxer blames the delay on a lax system.

"It is annoying. For something that has been promised tous by the government, we have to go around chasing officials,"said Vijender.

His World Championship bronze entitles Vijender to a Rsone lakh prize money, while the Asian Championships bronzeshould fetch him Rs 50,000 according to the sports policy ofthe Haryana Government.

Vijender is currently employed as a DSP with the HaryanaPolice.

Haryana Sports Director O P Singh could not be reachedfor comment on the matter.
