Unidentified gunmen strike twice in six hours, injure two

Srinagar, Feb 10 (PTI) Unidentified gunmen todaystruck twice in a span of six hours in Sopore town of northKashmir, injuring two civilians, officials said.

In the first attack, 33-year-old Majid Bashir was shotat by the gunmen at around 10.00 am inside his shop in thetown, 52 kms from here, in Baramulla district, they said.

Officials said Bashir was hit in the left thigh by thebullets fired by the assailants, who fled from the spot soonafter the incident.

Police cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt,they said, adding, so far no arrest has been made inconnection with the incident.

The second attack took place at around 4.00 pm, whengunmen fired at 27-year-old Arif Hussain Reshi at a cigaretteshop in Sopore market.

Officials said Reshi, an employee at the state publicHealth Engineering Department, was hit by the bullet in theleft foot. He was rushed to nearby sub-district hospital fortreatment.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for theattacks so far.

The attacks come less than a fortnight after twosisters were killed by suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba militants inMuslim Peer area of the town.
