Melbourne, Feb 10 (ANI): A New York University professor who had implanted a video camera in the back of his head, has been forced to remove part of the device after his body rejected it.

Photography professor Wafaa Bilal had installed the camera in his head as part of an art project commissioned by a new museum in Qatar.

According to myFOXny.com, he was in constant pain because his body rejected one of the posts, reports News.com.au.

Bilal underwent surgery to remove one of the three posts that held the camera in place and was expected to reinstall the device after the wound healed, according to a report in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Until then, the camera will remain tied to the back of Bilal's neck.

Iraqi-born Bilal, a well-known artist, had last November called it a 'unique conceptual piece expressed in my own unique artistic language'.

"This new installation raises important social, aesthetic, political, technological, and artistic questions," he had said then.

Bilal was expected to broadcast live images of his daily surroundings to the new Arab Museum of Modern Art as part of the project.

His project caused debate on NYU's campus as administrators and faculty have struggled to determine how to prevent any violation of student privacy, according to The Wall Street Journal. (ANI)
