Rajkot, Feb 8 (PTI) The syndicate of the SaurashtraUniversity today turned down Gujarat Governor''s recommendationthat its Registrar should be sacked.
Governor Dr Kamla, also the Chancellor of the University,last week recommended removal of Registrar Gajendra Jani, onthe ground that he did not possess required qualification andexperience.
Vice Chancellor Kamlesh Joshipura, who was on leave, hadcalled an emergency syndicate meeting today to discuss theissue.
The syndicate decided not to implement Governor''srecommendation as eight members voted in favour of Jani whilethree voted against him, said Nehal Shukla, one of themembers.
Vice Chancellor Joshipura told reporters that thesyndicate''s decision has been conveyed to the Governor whowill now take the final decision.
Nidit Barot, who voted against Jani in today''s meeting,termed majority decision as "a blot".
Congress had criticised Jani''s appointment when he tookover four years ago.
Recently, Governor had sent a three-member team to SU toverify Jani''s eligibility.
If the varsity does not accept Governor''s recommendation,she has the power to dismiss the entire syndicate, said asenior syndicate member.
This is for the first time in the history of SaurashtraUniversity that Gujarat governor has intervened andrecommended Registrar''s termination. PTI VJAKRK
