Car bomb blast leaves six dead in Iraq

Baghdad, Feb 9: Kirkuk, the oil-rich northern city of Iraq was rocked by three car bomb explosions on Feb 9. At least six people are feared dead while 75 or more may be wounded.

According to Reuters, two of the explosions were aimed at the police. This comes latest in a series of attacks on police and soldiers by insurgents. Police and hospital sources informed that six people were killed and 75 wounded in the blasts, said the report.

Kirkuk, a city rich in oil-reserves is a major bone of contention between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Iraq's central government.

There has been a sudden spurt in violence as the US forces prepare to leave the war-torn country towards the end of 2011.
