Agartala, Feb 7 (PTI) Tripura Finance Minister BadalChowdhury today alleged that the Congress-led UPA governmenthas been depriving the state of central funds for notfollowing the liberal economic policies.
"As the state was not following the Congress-led UPAgovernment''s economic reform policies, the central governmentis depriving the state financially," Chowdhury told reporters.
He alleged that not only Tripura but the entirenorth-eastern region which is economically backward was facingfinancial crisis as the Centre denied to give awards on shareof central funds and proper share of taxes as a result ofwhich the state might face hardship in timely payment ofcommitted expenditures like salaries and pension.
"Even the state was compelled to stop manydevelopmental activities," he added.
Chowdhury alleged that due to the decreasing rate ofinterests in small-savings, a section of people were showingmore interests to deposit money in unauthorised non-bankingfinancial companies (NBFC) in the region.
