Kolkata, Feb 7 (PTI) Trinamool Congress today allegedthat the CPI(M)-led government in West Bengal was implicatinga large number of its workers and sympathisers in false casesafter branding them as Maoists.
"We have submitted before the governor that the LeftFront government was out to suppress voices of protest byimplicating many of our workers and sympathisers in falsecases and even branding some as Maoists," leader of theOpposition in state Assembly Partha Chatterjee, who led adelegation to Governor M K Narayanan, told reporters outsideRaj Bhavan.
Citing arrests of two persons as Maoist linkmen from aTrinamool-run relief camp in Midnapore town, Chatterjeealleged, "Initially the police did not confirm the Maoistconnection, but later reversed its statement at the insistenceof CPI-M state secretary Biman Bose.
"Prior to the Assembly polls, thousands of Trinamoolworkers are being implicated in false cases by the police sothat they cannot come out of jails before the elections."
The party has already discussed this issue at thecore committee meeting, he said.
According to Chatterjee, they had also informed thegovernor the unprecedented Rs two lakh crore debt burden onthe state under the Left rule in the last 34 years.
