Hyderabad, Feb 8 (PTI) Hailing the recommendations of theJustice Rajinder Sachar Committee on welfare of minorities, asenior advocate from Pakistan today stressed on the need forconstitution of a similar committee in his country.
"Unfortunately, there has not been any concerted efforton part of the Pakistan government to constitute a committeelike the Sachar Committee. It was a commendable and mostappreciable action taken by the Indian government," said AkramSheikh, a senior advocate and former president of the BarAssociation of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Participating in a session on ''Rights of Religious andother Minorities'' at the ongoing 17th Commonwealth LawConference here, Akram Sheikh, said the Sachar Committee hadnot only listed out the problems of minorities particularlyMuslims, with admirable clarity and accurate analysis, but hadalso made out recommendations which shall ultimately not onlysolve the problems but create a greater harmony in India andgreat prospect for greater democracy.
The Sachar Committee report is a great report and itshould be implemented in letter and spirit in India, he saidadding, "We have also demanded and even the Supreme Court inPakistan has directed to hold an investigative report of thetrue facts in our country."
If the Sachar Committee recommendations are implementedmost of the religious problems will be solved not only inPakistan but in this region, he added. (More) PTI VVK VKV
