Jammu, Feb 7 (PTI) The second phase of the censusoperation would start from February 9 in Jammu and Kashmir,which would see 27,500 government employees working for theexercise, a senior official said today.
"The second phase of census in Jammu and Kashmir willstart from February 9 and conclude on February 28. As many as27,500 government employees will take part in the censusoperations," Chief Principal Census Operation, J&K Directorateof Census Operation, Farooq Ahmed told reporter here.
The preparations have been completed, training givento employees and census material have been dispatched for thesupervisors and enumerators, he said.
"The records of the first phase for four tehsils -Budgam, Gulmargh, Mendhar and Pampore, which were gutted inthe fire incidents during turmoil have been documented," hesaid.
Farooq further said that provisional populationfigures shall be known after revisional round of Populationenumeration from 1st of March to 5th March this year.
82 tehsils, 86 statutory towns and 6,560 villageswould be covered under the census operation.
All Deputy Commissioners and Municipal Commissionersof Srinagar and Jammu have been designated as Principal CensusOfficers and Tehsildars to facilitate census operation.
The Director said that the J-K government has directedall the Principal Census Officers to ensure timely completionof the exercise.
He also appealed to media to help in carrying out theexercise smoothly. Farooq also unveiled the mascot for censusoperation on the occasion.
