HC seeks CARA''s reply on adoption applications
Mumbai, Feb 8 (PTI) The Bombay High Court todaydirected the Central Adoption Resources Agency (CARA) toreview within two weeks applications of seven foreignnationals wanting to adopt Indian children with special needs.
The petitioners had approached the High Court afterCARA refused them a No Objection Certificate despite ago-ahead given by the adoption coordination committee.
Counsel for the Child Welfare Committee informed thecourt that eight children are awaiting permission for beingadopted and that one of the petitioners had withdrawn theapplication due to the delay.
While hearing another petition filed by Pune basedadoption agency Preet Mandir, whose license was suspended inMay last year for alleged irregularities, the High Courtdirected CARA to file reply by March 3.
The agency had challenged the suspension of licensestating that CARA can regulate but not stop it from working.
