Delhi govt fixes amount for unauthorized colonies

New Delhi, Feb 7 (PTI) House owners in over 1,600unauthorised colonies in the city will have to pay Rs 200 persquare metre as development charge for regularisation of theircolonies as well as getting various basic amenities like watersupply, drainage and road connectivity.

A senior offcial said if someone has a house on a50-meter plot, he will have to pay an amount of Rs 10,000 tothe government as development fees.

The Delhi Cabinet, presided over by Chief MinisterSheila Dikshit today, fixed the amount as the developmentcharge on unauthorised colonies for their regularisation andproviding various services.

The amount was finalised on the basis of a recommendationby a Group of Ministers (GoM) which had submitted its reportlast week.

"The Cabinet has approved the recommendations of theGoM to levy development charges for regularisation ofunauthorised colonies," Dikshit said.

The GoM under the chairmanship of Finance Minister A KWalia was appointed last month ago to fix the rate afterconsensus eluded in a Cabinet meeting.

The development charge has been fixed to recover the costof providing various basic amenities like water, power, roadsand sewer lines in the unauthorised colonies which haveapplied for regularisation. (more) PTI MPB
