Mumbai, Feb 6 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh''s A S Suresh Krishnathrashed youngster Arjun Khade 6-2, 6-0 to lift the men''ssingles title in the Rs 10 lakh Videocon All-India Open Tennistournament at the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club here today.
Eighth seed Suresh, who ousted top seed P C Vignesh inthe quarter-finals and rolled past Nitten Kirrtane in thesemis to reach the title-round without dropping a set, wasjust too powerful and accurate for Khade, still reeling fromhis gruelling three-set win over West Bengal''s Saurav Sukul inthe semis.Suresh broke Khade in the third game for a 3-1 lead andafter both held serves, broke again for a 5-2 lead beforeserving out the first set.
The second set was whitewash as Suresh, who did not playcompetitive tennis for two years, broke Khade thrice and heldwith ease to win 6-0.
Late last evening, top seed Sheethal Goutham of Karnatakadefended her women''s singles title, defeating Maharashtra''sIsha Lakhani 6-3, 6-3 in the women''s final.
Sheethal then missed out on making it a grand treble whenshe and her partner, Shivika Burman of WB, went down narrowlyto the pair of Shweta Rana and Garima Vatwani, losing 8-10 inthe super tie-breaker after sharing the first two sets 4-6,6-4. Sheethal had earlier won the mixed doubles event withMurali Murali.
The men''s doubles title was won by Maharashtra''s duo ofNitten Kirrtane and Arjun Khade, who won a tough encounteragainst Yannick Nelord and Ajai Selvaraj 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. PTIVKV ABC AT
