Police lathicharge villagers at Sathengabari
Nandigram(WB), Feb 6 (PTI) Police today lathichargedvillagers at Sathengabari here when they tried to prevent themfrom arresting a local Trinamool Congress (TC) leader.
According to police, a team went to Satengabari to arrestNaushen Ali against whom there were some cases.
When the police team arrested Ali and was taking him tothe police station the locals gheraoed them and tried toprevent them from taking Ali to the police station.
A mild lathicharge was made to disperse the people, thesources claimed.
Local Trinamool Congress leader Abu Taher alleged thatsix persons were injured in the police lathicharge.
Trinamool Congress MP Suvendu Adhikary alleged that thepolice was framing false cases against TC leaders and workersand arresting them but not taking any action against CPI(M)leaders against whom cases are pending.
Adhikary said he and other TC leaders would take out aprocession tomorrow in the area to condemn the police action.
Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of PoliceHrishikesh Meena said police was just following the rule inarresting Ali as there were cases against him.
