Land scam allegation - from Swamy to Karuna

New Delhi, Feb 7: After the Karnataka Chief Minister, BS Yeddyurappa getting into a legal tangle and a public spat with the Governor over his alleged involvement in land scams. The crown of thorns will now decorate the head of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. And the person who will put the crown on the Chief Minister's head will be none other than Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy.

After Swamy seeked to charge Karunanidhi as one of the accused of the 2G spectrum scam last week, he is out to defame him yet again with the land scams. Playing a whistleblower of sorts, Swamy said, "This is a petition for discretionary land allotment under quota of Tamil Nadu Housing Society. I have records mentioning misuse of power to allot lands to people who don't deserve it. Following Ashok Chavan, I demand Karunanidhi's resignation."

Swamy has apparently raised a stink by accusing Karunanidhi of allotting land to Former Chief justice of India KG Balakrishnan's aide. The matter was brought forth through a petition to Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala asking for sanction to prosecute Karunanidhi on the discretionary land allotments.

Karunanidhi had hit back at Swamy earlier (on the 2G spectrum involvement) by slapping a legal notice on Swamy and called the allegation against him as "motivated by your personal malice, political rivalry and clamour for cheap publicity".

The latest weapon in Swamy's armour seem to be the controversy surrounding the plot allotments. Will Swamy's allegations lead to a fall-from-grace for the DMK kingpin? Lets wait and see.
