Govt intends to reduce vacation duration in schools:Peerzada

Jammu, Feb 6 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir government iscontemplating reducing the vacation period in all stateeducational institutions to increase the yearly working daysand enable the students complete their syllabus well in time.

"Government is contemplating reducing the vacation periodin all state educational institutions to increase the yearlyclass working days," Minister for Education Peerzada MohammadSayeed said at a function here tonight.

Listing the reforms introduced to further perk up theeducation standards in the state, the Minister said that tomeet the demands of the modern academic trends there was aneed to have more class working days.

He said cutting the duration of the vacation would helpin broadening the scope of curricular and co-curricularactivities.

Sayeed said the state has set a goal for achievinghundred per cent literacy for which several reformativemeasures have been taken.

He said the education system is being revised andrevitalised to make education available to every part of thestate and enable the students to compete at national level.

The Minister said that during past some years the resultsin the government schools have greatly improved and theparents now prefer to send their wards to government-runschools. In this regard, he gave due credit to the dedicationand devotion of teacher fraternity.
