Girl's body parts hacked for resisting rape

Kanpur, Feb 7: Yet in another heinous act in Uttar Pradesh, a 16-year-old Dalit girl's body was hacked by offenders as she resisted the rape attempt. The victim is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in Kanpur. Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and UP Chief Minister Mayawati expected to visit the victim in hospital.

The security for women in the nation is facing a serious threat at present. The series of abductions and rapes of minor girls and women is increasing day after day, the dreadful incident has gripped the Fatehpur district.

The victim's nose, ear and a part of her arm were chopped off by some men as she resisted the rape attempt.

Superintendent of police Ram Bharose said, “Three youths forcibly dragged the girl, when she had gone out for some work, into a field and attempted to rape her late last night."

Police sources said that the ongoing conflict between the victim's and offenders' families was the cause for this gruesome incident.

Three youths identified as Shivom, Hari Shanker and Pawan has been accused in the case and an FIR has been filed against them. The police arrested Harishakar and searching for the other two.

The victim said, "When they started harassing me, I tried to run away, but I could not. They attacked me with axes."
