Liverpool victory spoils Torres' Chelsea debut

By Biswajeet Panda
London, Feb 7: Nothing was hunky-dory for Fernando Torres in his Chelsea debut against his former club Liverpool. Chelsea were beaten 1-0 as Liverpool narrowed down the gap between them to six points.

Torres who was signed on by Chelsea from Liverpool for a record $80mn, was subjected to taunt banners from Liverpool fans. The Spanish striker managed only two shots before being substituted in the 65th minute.

Just minutes after his substitution, Raul Meireles hit the Chelsea goal post to Secure Liverpool's fourth straight league win without conceding a single goal.

An upbeat Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said, "We are quite on a roll at the moment and are enjoying it," and added, "I didn't see our goalkeeper having too much to do and our defense was magnificent in front of him. I don't think any of their forwards will be too happy about the game they had."

Defending Torres, Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said, "We have to give Fernando time to adjust to the shape (of the team)," and added, "the problem wasn't that Torres played ... we had difficulty finding enough space in front because Liverpool defended very well.. They put three defenders in the middle, and we didn't find the right way to attack them."
