Ahmedabad, Feb 5 (PTI) Gujarat government has issued ashow cause notice to senior IPS officer Rahul Sharma who hadsubmitted a Compact Disk (CD) containing phone call records ofpolice officials and political leaders to various probe panelsinquiring into the 2002 post-Godhra riots.
In-charge DGP of Gujarat, Chitranjan Singh, said a showcause notice has been issued by Gujarat government to Sharmathrough him.
"Yes, I have received a show cause notice. It isregarding the CD of phone call records," Sharma told PTI.
He said he is yet to study the notice and will give aresponse to it only after consulting legal experts.
The notice asks Sharma why action should not be initiatedagainst him for handing over the telephone records concerningthe 2002 riots to inquiry panels without obtaining permissionfrom the government.
Sharma has been given 15 days time to send his reply.
The move by the state government comes a day after theTehelka magazine released details of purported report of theSupreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team(SIT) intoGujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi''s alleged role in thepost-Godhar riots in 2002.
Sharma, who was posted in Ahmedabad during the 2002post-Godhra riots, had asked private service providers likeCelforce and AT&T to furnish details of calls made across thestate during late February and early March of 2002. (MORE) PTIPDABC
