Guwahati, Feb 6 (PTI) �SPECTRUM�, a book dealing with theburning social issues confronting today�s world authored bynoted writer from Assam Arup K. Hazarika was jointly releasedby Gynanpith awardee Dr. Mamoni Raisom Goswami and formerMinister and social activist Hemoprabha Saikia.
The book discusses diverse issues on education, crimeagainst children, anatomy of violence, terrorism, women andterrorism, environment, divorce, that could be related to ourlives, Goswami said while releasing the book here this week.
The noted litterateur also said that she had inauguratedover 400 books so far but what she found unique about the bookrelease was that the function was held in the living room ofthe author�s residence in an intimate manner.
Goswami was also appreciative of Hazarika launching hisbook on the death anniversary of his social activist andlawyer mother Arati Hazarika "as mother is the beginning ofall creations and creativity. It is the mother who givesspiritual strength to an individual besides knowledge".
Author Hazarika, who is an associate professor in theZoology department of Assam''s premier Cotton College here saidthe title of the book "was specifically chosen to indicate thewide ranging issues that concerned the people today eventhough they were not new topics but had relevance to everyoneof us".
"The book has been divided into different sections dealingwith various kinds of social issues that had relevance in thepast, present and will also have in the future with the beliefthat not only should we strive to understand the present butalso set the future scenario in perspective by drawing uponthe past", Hazarika added.
The book also gives glimpses into issues such ascorruption, human rights, prostitution, human trafficking,urbanisation, male depression, old age, etc.
