New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) After struggling for two months tofind a broadcaster for the I-League, IMG-Reliance, thecommercial partner of AIFF, has awarded Bengali channel''Mahuaa Khobor'' the right to telecast matches involving thethree Kolkata clubs.
''Mahuaa Khobor'' of Mahuaa Media Pvt Ltd. will telecast inWest Bengal 37 home and away matches of Mohun Bagan, EastBengal and Chirag United starting with the 13th Round derbybetween the first two teams, an IMG-Reliance release said.
This means that other matches involving the remaining 11teams are yet to find any takers for their telecast even asthe first phase of the 26-round league is coming to an end.
IMG-Reliance and the AIFF had struck a 15-year deal worthRs 700 crore on December 10 last year with the former gettingall the commercial rights of the federation, including that ofthe national team.
AIFF president Praful Patel expressed happiness that thematches will be telecast live.
"We are very pleased that the I-League will be telecastlive commencing with the Kolkata Derby. We are confident thatthe new partnership with IMG-RIL will go a long way in takingIndian football to the next level," he said.
Yubaraj Bhattacharya, CEO Regional Channels MMPL, said,"We are happy to partner AIFF and IMG Reliance in promotingfootball in Bengal and beyond. I-League is the biggestfootball property in India and MMPL is proud to present it tothe Bengali audiences. This is the first time that the awaymatches of the Kolkata football clubs will be telecast live inBengal." PTI PDS AH
