Govt sanctions Rs 1.5 crore to Mohun Bagan

Kolkata, Feb 4 (PTI) The West Bengal government todaysanctioned Mohun Bagan Athletic Club Rs 1.5 crore forrenovation of a portion of its gallery to mark the centenaryof the club winning the IFA Shield for the first timedefeating the Britishers.

Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta said the decision wastaken as the club brought pride to the country on a historicoccasion.

The state government also waived the entertainment taxon screening of ''Egaro'' (The Eleven), a Bengali film depictinghow a barefoot bunch of 11 Indians representing Mohun Bagan,defeated East Yorkshire Regiment 2-1 to lay their hands forthe first time on the coveted IFA Shield on July 29, 1911.

This would reduce the price of ticket enabling morepeople to watch the film, Dasgupta said.
