Mumbai, Feb 4 (PTI) Top seed and last year''s runner-upP C Vignesh suffered a shock 2-6, 2-6 defeat at the hands ofstatemate A S Suresh Krishna of Andhra Pradesh in the quarter-finals in the Rs 10-lakh prize money Videocon All-India OpenTennis Tournament here today.
Krishna (21), making a comeback to competitive tennisafter a study break of two years, was superior in everydepartment as he set up a last four clash with fifth seedNitten Kirtane of Pune, who ousted Sunil Sipaeya of Haryana.
Suresh used his big serve and better court coverage totelling effect against his more experienced opponent and ranaway with the first set 6-2 in a jiffy.
The second set saw him break Vignesh for a 3-1 lead,after which games went with serves before he broke again inthe eighth game for a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Kirtane (36) won the battle of the veterans againstthe 27-year-old Sipaeya 6-3, 6-1.
Also making his way into the last four was Arjun Khadeof Maharashtra. He just needed one break of serve in each gameto get the better of TN''s Vignesh Veerbhadran 6-4, 6-4.
The 17-year-old was hardly stretched in his straightsets win. He will meet West Bengal''s Saurav Sukul, who routedMaharashtra''s Shabaaz Khan in a 3-set match 6-7(6), 6-2, 6-1.
In the women''s draw, top-seed Sheethal Goutham ofKarnataka entered the finals after her rival Sharon Paulretired hurt while trailing 6-7(10), 1-3.
In the title clash, she will face experienced IshaLakhani of Maharashtra who breezed past second seed ShivikaBurman of West Bengal 6-2, 6-1 for a place in the final. PTIVKV ATK
