Mehsana, Feb 4 (PTI) A local court here todaysentenced a truck driver to seven years'' rigorous imprisonmentfor the death of four Jain Sadhvis, who were run over onMehsana-Unjha road in November 2009.
Additional district judge B M Trivedi also imposed afine of Rs 6,100 on the accused, Manoj Bishnoi, who hails froma village in Bikaner.
Bishnoi had been charged under section 304 of IPC(culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
The incident had taken place near Soneri Patiyavillage on the Mehsana-Unjha road on the early morning ofNovember 9, 2009, when a group of nine Jain Sadhvis werewalking along the side of the road, heading for a religiousfunction.
The truck driven by Bishnoi ran over four of them,killing them on the spot.
Bishnoi then fled from the spot, and was laterarrested by the police from South Gujarat region.
The case was later handed over to the state CID. PTICOR PB PD KRK
