Ahmedabad, Feb 4 (PTI) A man was sentenced to lifeimprisonment for the murder of his love interest''s husband,while four others accused in the case were acquitted for lackof evidence by a local court today.
City sessions judge V M Chaudhary also imposed a fine ofRs 5000 on Shashikant Kukuswami after sentencing him for lifeimprisonment for murder of one Ashok Mudaliyar in 2008.
In case Kukuswami, fails to pay the fine amount, thesentence would be increased by four months, the court said.
Those acquitted by the court include Shyam Yadav, ManishTiwari, Rajesh Joshi and Sanjay Pannalal.
According to public prosecutor Dinesh Sharma, Kukuswamiwas the nephew of history sheeter Ghetia Dada, who was killedin a police encounter in 2009.
On October 4, 2008, Kukuswami with four other accused hadattacked Mudaliyar while he was sitting with his friends inKhokhra area of the city. Mudaliyar was stabbed with swordsand knifes 24 times with most of the wounds on his privateparts, which killed him on the spot.
The murder was result of personal animosity betweenMudaliyar and Kukuswami. Mudaliyar had married a woman who wasthe love interest of Kukuswami, Sharma said.
He further said that 20 witnesses were examined out ofwhich 11 had turned hostile during trial. More than 26documentary evidences were put before the court, Sharma added.
