Gaya hospital firing case: RJD MLA surrenders before court

Gaya/Patna, Feb 4 (PTI) Senior RJD MLA Surendra Yadav,who was allegedly involved in the firing at a hospital inGaya, today surrendered before a court which remanded him to14 days judicial custody.

Yadav, accompanied by his lawyers, gave himself upbefore the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (Gaya) R N SPande, who remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.

With Yadav''s surrender, chances of an end to theindefinite strike called by junior doctors across Bihar todemand his arrest have brightened. The doctors had gone onstrike on Monday.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had asked the juniordoctors to resume work first before pressing for their demandand directed the state health department secretary A Sinha toensure proper care for patients at the medical colleges andhospitals across the state.

The indefinite strike by the medicos against thefiring by the MLA''s bodyguards at Anugraha Narayan MedicalCollege and Hospital (ANMCH) at Gaya on Sunday had affectedthe functioning of medical colleges and hospitals in thestate.

Among the hospitals which were affected by the stirare ANMCH, Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), NalandaMedical College Hospital, Darbhanga Medical College andHospital, S K Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur andJ L N Medical College and Hospital at Bhagalpur.

The two bodyguards of Yadav, a four-time MLA fromBelagunj in Gaya and a minister in the erstwhile Rabri Devigovernment, had allegedly fired at junior doctors at ANMCH andinjured three of them after a heated argument between them andthe legislator over delay in treating a patient. Both thebodyguards have already been arrested and are in judicialcustody.
