Sipaeya, Khade enter quarter-finals

Mumbai, Feb 2 (PTI) Former India Davis Cup player SunilSipaeya and Maharashtra''s Arjun Khade were pictures ofcontrast while advancing to the men''s singles quarter-finalsof the Rs 10-lakh prize money Videocon All-India Open TennisChampionships today.

27-year-old Sipaeya, returning to competitive tennisafter an 18-month injury lay-off, was cautious and tentativein his approach against the hard-hitting Sagar Ahuja ofMaharashtra but possessed enough arsenal to win 7-5 6-3.

17-year-old Khade, on the other hand, was keen to testhis wares and took his chances against seventh seed KunalAnand of Delhi to prevail 6-2 4-6 6-3 with attacking tennis inthe tournament conducted by the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana here.

In other matches, seasoned Saurav Sukul of Bengaloutplayed sixth seed Rohan Gide of Maharashtra 6-2 6-1, whileAP''s A S Suresh ended the run of another host state youngsterRajat Maheshwari, winning 6-3, 6-2.

In women''s action, Maharashtra''s unseeded Isha Lakhanidefeated third seed Shweta Rana from Himachal Pradesh 6-2 6-1to enter the quarter finals.

Top seed Sheetal Goutham of Karnataka beat Delhi''sArantxa Andrady 7-5 6-4 and would meet Goa''s sixth seedNatasha Palha for a place in the semis while second seedShivika Burman of Bengal edged out Eetee Mehta of Gujarat 6-45-7 6-2.
