Jammu, Feb 2 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir will send a95-strong contingent to take part in the 34th National Gamesin Jharkhand, Minister for Sports R S Chib said today.
"J&K is taking part in the 34th National games-2011 bysending a contingent of 95 athletes to Jharkhand," Chib toldreporters here today.
The event is being held from February 12 to 26 at Ranchi,Danbad and Jamshedpur towns of Jharkhand.
Giving details, the Minister said that the sportsmenfrom Jammu and Kashmir will participate in 11 disciplines.
These include athletics, boxing, cycling, fencing,gymnastic, handball, kayaking & canoeing, shooting, swimming,weightlifting and wrestling, adding that the Chief MinisterOmar Abdullah will flag off the selected athletes on February8.
Referring to the state''s performance at National Games,Chib said that the players of the state won 17 medals indifferent category in various disciplines in the last edition.
He hoped that the participants will bring laurel to thestate by winning more medals this time.
The J&K Sports Council is sponsoring the event byproviding kits and other facilities.
