Thrissur (Ker), Feb 2 (PTI) A 23-year-old woman isbattling for life after she allegedly jumped from a runningtrain to escape a molestation bid by a man who entered thewomen''s compartment, police said.
According to police, the woman was found unconsciouson the tracks between Vallathol Nagar and Shornur Railwaystation at 9.30 pm yesterday with serious head injuries.
They said a man entered the near-empty compartment ofthe Ernakulam-Shonur passenger train and tried to molest her.
Though she cried out, none came forward to help her, followingwhich she reportedly jumped from the train.
Police are verifying if she jumped or was pushed outfrom the train by the man, who got into the compartment atVallathol Nagar station when it halted there.
The woman was employed in a private firm at Kochi andwas on her way to home at Manjakad near Shornur.
Her brother said she was coming home in connectionwith a marriage proposal.
Police said she was unconscious and in the ICU ofGovernment Medical College Hospital at nearbyMulamkunnathukavu.
Sources at Vallathol Nagar Railway Station said thewoman was found unconscious in a pool of blood with multipleinjuries 400 m away from the station late last night. She wasimmediately rushed to the hospital at Mulangunnathukavu, theysaid.
The women compartment is usually almost empty afterthe train leaves Thrissur. There was no railway guard orpoliceman in the compartment, sources said.
