Mumbai, Jan 31 (PTI) City police today soughtcommunication and log book details from naval warship INSVindhyagiri and foreign cargo vessel M V NordLake as part ofits probe of the collision between the two ships off theMumbai harbour.
"We have sought communication details and log bookinformation of both the ships. We will take the help of theexperts to ascertain whose fault it was," a senior officialsaid.
Police would record statements of the captains and crewmembers of both the ships, the official said adding thestatement of the pilot at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trustwould also be recorded.
On Sunday, INS Vindhyagiri collided with Nordlake off theMumbai coast after which the Navy ordered an inquiry andregistered an FIR against the crew of the foreign vessel withthe Yellow Gate Police.
The warship, a fully-operational Leander-class frigatecommissioned in 1981, was badly damaged in a fire thatengulfed it following the collision.
The captain and crew of the merchant vessel were bookedunder IPC sections 280 (rash navigation of vessel), 337(causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety ofothers) and 427 (mischief causing damage), police said.
