Plan panel initiative to improve governance, fight corruption
New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) At a time when the government isfacing plethora of scandals relating to 2G spectrum sale andthe Commonwealth Games, the Planning Commission todaysolicited views from the public to improve governance andcombat corruption.
People can now submit their suggestions and views onpolicies and programmes which could be taken up duringfive-year period ending March 2017, Planning Commission DeputyChairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said while launching adedicated website for the 12th Plan (2012-17).
"I am expecting people to give their views (on inflationand corruption). I find a lot of people have views oncorruption. The issue of corruption becomes very relevant wewould like to see what they have to say," Ahluwalia said.
The Commission will be preparing a detailed five-yearplan by January-February 2012, he said, adding the web-basedconsultation process make the whole process more inclusive byallowing different stakeholders to participate in theexercise.
The Congress-led UPA government is under attack fromOpposition parties over allegations of corruption relating toallocation of 2G spectrum to telecom companies, mis-managementin Commonwealth Games, Adarsh Society scandal and appointmentof the Central Vigilance Commissioner.
As part of the preparatory exercise, the Commissionformulates an Approach Paper for the Plan. Once the ApproachPaper is approved by the Cabinet and the National DevelopmentCouncil, the five-year Plan is drawn.
