Mumbai, Feb 1 (PTI) Over 12,000 engineers belonging tostate-owned power companies in Maharashtra today went on athree day strike to protest against the Government''s decisionto outsource distribution network in some parts of the stateand to press for revision in wages.
"We are protesting against the decision of theGovernment to outsource the distribution network in citieslike Nagpur and Aurangabad to private entities. The franchiseemodel will only amount to back door entry for privateplayers," a member of the Subordinate Engineers'' Associationsaid.
The Association had earlier issued a notice to theGovernment saying that they would go on a strike if theirdemands were not fulfilled.
"We had several rounds of discussions with theGovernment on the issue but we never received any satisfactoryreply from them so we decided to go on a strike," he said.
The association has also put up a few more demandsincluding revision in wages.
